Sulfa allergy and lasix, My "community" (church) of 10 people just returned last weekend from a 10 day retreat and vacation to the western shores of Costa Rica. It was a wonderful, beautiful time. By the end of the week, this had become a natural way of life for us - fear had been put in its place by courage and trust. And the freedom that ensued was one of the most beautiful pictures of healing and of love that I've ever seen. Something seemed deeply right about our way; it seemed the way it was intended to be.

Not only are people physically absent, but when they are physically present, they are mentally absent. There's an old saying from South Carolina that "you always have time for what you put first." Uncommonly do people plant roots and see themselves as an important part of this place. As a result, relationships between people and groups tend to be unhealthily shallow and short-lived, yet everyone here is afraid to admit that they are not fulfilling or real. If I want to heal and be healed by my community, we need to assume that we are committed to each other, moreso than the traditional "friendship." I don't need friends; I need to be healed. Yet you who I am in this together with are my encouragement, long term lasix use. As Jonathan wrote,"how can we do it. we start by "beating our bodies and making them our slaves". what this means for us is that right now, instead of being depressed and wishing for things to be like last week, with time and space and good italian food... instead of that, we tighten our belts and get moving, i.e., start meeting together, praying together, experiencing intentional times of solitude, experiencing intentional times of community along the lines of our deep sharing last week, continue our roles discussion, start laying out practical steps for the near and distant future, etc. we do this even if we're busy getting back into life here. we do this even if we don't really want to see each other right now. we do it if we're tired, Alternative to lasix, and we do it even if not all of us are around (like i will not be next week, and nat's heading to colo, etc... and then there's vicki in seattle...) it is vital that we use this time to start getting into our "rhythm" and deciding what that will be, since it will only get harder and harder."
